Suzanne Kurtz & Jonathan Silverman developed a model for consulting with patients in 1996, the Calgary Cambridge Observation Guides. Its recent revision in Silverman, J. Kurtz, S. & Draper, J. (2005) describes 71 core evidence-based communication skills for effective primary care work. It describes details of the communication skills a clinician may employ to establish and build rapport with a patient and to gather information effectively. Relate to my interview.
