The percentage of homes with digital TV services stood at 5% at the beginning of 1990 (t=0) and was projected to grow

linearly so that, at the beginning of 2003 (t=4), the percentage of such homes was 25%. a) Derive an equation of the line passing through the points A(0,5) and B(4,25). b) Using the equation found in part a find the percentage of homes with digital TV services at the beginning of 2001. Using your own words write the steps you used to solve this problem

Answer: a) A(0,5) and B(4,25) Slope, m = (25 5)/(4 0) = 20/4 = 5 Equation of the line is y - 5 = 5( t 0) y 5 = 5t y = 5t + 5 To find the equation of the line, first I found out the slope of the line passing through the points (0, 5) and (4, 25). Then I substituted the slope in the formula for point-slope form of a line to get the equation of the required line. b) For beginning of 2001, t = 11 *(4/13) = 3.3846 The percentage of homes with digital TV services at the beginning of 2001 is y = 5t + 5 y = 5 * 3.3846 + 5 y = 17 + 5 y = 22 So, the percentage of homes with digital TV services at the beginning of 2001 is 22%.

First I found out the value of t and the substituted it in the obtained equation to get the required percentage.
