State transparency: management, preservation and access to public documents

International Seminar of

Promoted by the Asociacin Latinoamericana de Archivos- ALA (Latin American Archives Association) and by the General Archives of the Nation (General Archives of Colombia), the 8th International Seminar of Archives from Iberian Tradition will be held in Bogot, Colombia, from July 03rd to 05th, 2013, with the theme : State transparency: management, preservation and access to public documents. The Seminar hopes the attendance of professionals from at least 30 nationalities from Africa, Asian, Latin America and the Caribbean. Spanish, Portuguese and English speaking countries will be present in the Seminar. There will be sessions on the followings themes: Transparency laws from different Latin Americans countries; benefits of public information access; personal data protection; freedom of expression; transparency in Governments; the archivists position regarding electronic documents; the right to public information; access and its relations to the new communication and information technologies and the right to information as a way to Democracy. Furthermore, workshops will be offered by Specialized Professionals about: 1- ICA-AtoM - a database for managing and disseminating archival descriptions. 2- RODA - a system for management and preservation of digital records. 3- UNESCO Memory of the World (MOW) Program - the world's documentary heritage accessibility, preservation and protection.

Finally, this Seminar will start with the Iberian-American Archive Development Support Program-ADAI meeting on July 1st. The ADAI program is a multilateral finance fund to encourage the development of archives in Iberian-America with resources used to carrying out archival projects. The second day will be dedicated to the Latin American Archives Association - ALA General Assembly.

The Seminar is devoted to professionals and students who work within a variety of institutions, such as archives, information & document centers, libraries and archives service centers.
