Activity plan Topic: addition Learning objective: demonstrate an understanding of addition of numbers with answers to 20 and their corresponding

subtraction facts, concretely, pictorially and symbolically, by: using familiar mathematical language to describe additive and subtractive actions creating and solving problems in context that involve addition and subtraction modelling addition and subtraction, using a variety of concrete and visual representations, and recording the process symbolically

What materials do you need? Pencil and eraser or any object is handy at school

How much time will it go through? 15 min instructional time & 30 min for student work on their own.

How to introduce the plan/topic for the students I will use manipulative of my example question. First will ask them can you explain what is addition? (they already know from last class which is like a review session) Ask some problem solving question about addition.

Try to draw the question and answer then write out in numbers. Martin has 6 marbles. Mike gave him 7 more. How many marbles does martin have altogether?

There are 8 people in the bus. 6 more people rode the bus. How many people are there in the bus?

Mary has 10 pencils. Tony has only 7. How many more pencils Tony need to have the same pencil that Mary has?

John has 15 erasers. Josh need 7 more will have the same eraser that John has. How many erasers original that Josh has?

Can you create a question which you can get the answer of 17(or any number)?
