e following text outlines the specific steps I will take to improve my competencies: Present June 2013 Gain full-time employment at a Seattle-area institution likely in international education, preferably a local community college. Establish myself at that institution and community o Attend campus events, specifically through diversity programming (AANAPISI and womens center) o Join a campus committee (international scholarship committee, strategic enrollment management) o Participate in community events Collaborate with my colleagues and mentors to gain further experiences in the competency areas that need improvement o Contact Marsha Brown in the Seattle Colleges to learn more about human resources, budgeting, fundraising, assessment and research June 2013 June 2015 Attend local and regional professional development conferences (AWISA and NAFSA) o Expand my network and re-connect with known colleagues, and reach out to at least 3 new professionals at each conference Build a positive reputation at my current institution by connecting with various departments Reaffirm my passion for international education o Utilize reflective practices to evaluate my current satisfaction with my job Regularly read NAFSA journals and the Chronicle of Higher Education June 2015 Ongoing Pursue a new role within international education with increased leadership demands and responsibilities. Keep my options open and try new positions and new institutions to avoid getting stuck in a rut Maintain balance in my professional and personal life by reminding myself I need to be healthy and happy before helping others do the same o Continue to exercise at least 3 times per week o Remember self-care take breaks, go on periodic vacations, maintain relationships with family and friends o Sleep, eat, drink, and be merry!
