Vintage Mitten Ornament

by Linda Duke Create a vintage ornament out of felt with the help of mitten dies.

Supplies

Nested Mitten dies Die cutting machine (Wizard used here) Sewing machine Embroidery floss and needle Charm fragments Clear, dimensional glaze (Glossy Accents used here) Scissors Coarse glitter Vintage images (Crafty Secrets Little Blessings Creative Scraps used here) Embellishments, to decorate your mitten

Step-by-Step
1.Step 1
Fold felt in half so you can cut two of the large Nested Mittens. NOTE: Make sure the right sides are facing each other

2.Step 2
With a sewing machine, sew both mittens around edge, leave top open.

3.Step 3
Thread your needle with a color of thread of your choice. Start at the top (inside), and pull toward the outside edge.

4.Step 4
Insert needle back into felt about 1/4 from the beginning.

5. Pull needle through the loop as shown.

6.Step 5
Count down two sewing machine stitches, and repeat the same stitch as before.

7. Continue all the way around the mitten.

8.Step 6
Select your image. Put Glossy Accents on one side of the fragment, and place on the image. Do this for all four pieces.

9.Step 7
When dry, cut out all fragments.

10.

Step 8

Pull same color thread used for the stitching through holes in each fragment.

11.

Step 9

Apply Glossy accents to the front of your mitten. Hint: The Stampin Up! paper is the back of their Stampin' Dimensionals. I use it because its slick, and glitter doesnt stick to it.

12.

Step 10

Smooth Glossy Accents out over the mitten with a piece of scrap paper. Add glitter and tap off excess.

13.

Step 11

Make a loop with the same thread you used for the stitching, and tie a knot.

14.

Step 12

Gather up the fragment pieces, and tie a knot toward the top. With needle and thread sew them on the mittens. Do the same for the loop above.

15.

Step 13

Add more Glossy Accents where the threads were cut so they do not fray.

16.

Step 14

For this sample a feather boa was airbrushed with the Tea Rose Copic Marker. It was attached to the mitten with Glossy Accents.

17.

When dry, the flower, bow, and heart stick pins were added to finish the ornament.
