    Lucky escape for two as tree falls on house

    KULIM: Two youths cheated death when a tree uprooted by a thunderstorm fell on their home in Taman Tiram, Lunas. Abdul Amar Ahmad and Azri Abdul Rahim, both 23, missed being struck by the tree and escaped with minor injuries. Forty houses were damaged in the 2.30pm storm while 200 others were damaged in a similar storm that hit Kulim, Lunas, Sungai Kob, Karangan and Sungai Ular on Friday, Kulim police chief Supt Ghuzlan Salleh said. A check at the scene yesterday evening found Kulim Municipal Council personnel conducting a clean-up of fallen trees. However, we have yet to ascertain the amount of losses suffered by home owners in today's storm, he said. Kulim Social Welfare Department officer Rohana Yus uf said department staffers were expected to complete their survey tomorrow to enable house repairs and distribution of aid to victims. Bernama
