TASK (P4) Ethical issues in mental health Ethics are fundamental principles, which respect the rights and

feelings of those taking part in research.

Ethical issues that Tim should consider before conducting his study There are four ethical issues that Tim should consider before conducting his study, these are; Consent Deception Confidentiality Right to withdraw

One of the ethical issues that Tim should consider when conducting his study is consent. The reason for this is that he is going to be conducting interviews and questionnaires with the schizophrenic patients without asking for their (the patients) permission if he should talk to their families. Another issue Tim should consider is deception. The reason for this is maybe Tim would want to withhold some information from the families of the patients that hes going to interview just so he could get what he want. For example, maybe some of the families may be too upset or embarrassed by some of the questions he may ask them and they may not want to answer those questions causing him to mislead them. Confidentiality and anonymity is another one of the issues that Tim should consider before conducting his study. If the families of the patients that hes interviewing do not want him to reveal their identities he should do as they ask. All the families that Tim is going interview should have the right to withdraw. For example, if the families after the interview and questionnaires have been completed have a change of heart and decide that they do not want their answers to be published, he should allow them to withdraw their data. He can only publish it if they agree to it.
