Lesson Plan

Title of the Unit: Scenes and Monologues Topic: Presentation/Performance


Overview and Purpose Students will choose, rehearse, and perform monologues or scenes that are interesting to them. Performances are analyzed and constructive feedback is provided by peers and Mr. Dubray and Mr. Burgess. Cross Curriculum Competencies Lifelong Learners, Self and Community. Engaged Citizens Identity/Interdependence Thinking PPG Goal Addressed 1.2 Uses a variety of ways to identify and build on student academic, physical, spiritual and social strengths. 2.1 Creates and maintains a learning environment that encourages and supports the growth and potential of the whole student. 2.2 Provides learning opportunities that recognizes and fosters each pupil's sense of self-worth and dignity while demonstrating caring, compassion, trust and empathy. Outcomes/Indicators 1. Students will understand how to create full and defined characters through the study of sympathy and empathy. 2. Students will develop critical viewing and listening skills as they offer constructive criticism of each students performanc e. Introduction: Quick review of audience expectations during student performances. (Including: no cell phone use, focused attention, and constructive feedback.) Give approximately 5 minutes for performing students to prepare. Following each performance, students will be given time to offer their feedback. Closure: Mr. Dubray and Mr. Burgess will offer insight and direction into specifics that students should focus on for the further growth of the character/performance of the scene/monologue. Occasionally, the student(s) will be asked to redo the scene or monologue, incorporating feedback so that greater clarity can be reached. Materials: Chairs, Tripod, Video Camera Adaptations/Differentiations: No Adaptations/Differentiations required.

Grade (s) Level: 11/12 Drama Time allotted: 1 class

Assessment of outcomes/objectives: Performances will be recorded. Each student will be given access to a downloadable copy of their performance through an online Dropbox. Students can access and download their own performance for the purpose of self-review. Reflections: Great success with B and G the punching and walking method during scene work.
