This is song was written in poland during Kosciuszko's lifetime. It was written to have a militaristic feel to it and through this we better understood how the Poles viewed the military at this time. Through this song we better understood the British view of the American Revolution. we learned that America was seen as a lost cause by the British towards the end of the War and that the British were surprised by the tenacity of the American Rebels. This song is the National Anthem of Poland, it was written around the same time as Kosciuszko's Uprising. Through this song we could feel the Poles' pride in their nation and their desire for Independence. It allowed us to literally "hear" history.
