Volume Management
Solaris by default does not use & Volume Manager, the file system by default is created right on top of a
partition. Sun does have 2 Volume Manager thal is very lied lo Solaris: The Solaris Volume Manager, formerly
Solstice Disk Suite,
Allematively, lol of places use Veritas Volume Manager. IMHO, the OS boot disk is best left in control of the
SVM. This is 2 hofly contested topic. I will just say that starting with VxVM 4.0, the word from Veritas tech
support is: "We no longer require you lo use VaVM for the boot disk, why donit you just use Veritas for your
dala disks", They told me this afler T ran into some bugs and they needed me to update from 4.0 to 4.01.
Needless to say, Tchanged my school of thought then and used SVM for the bootdisk from then on.
