COCNUT HUSK AND SKIN AS ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL FOR PARTICLE BOARD

INTRODUCTION

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The study aims to answer the following research questions: Is it feasible to produce particle board from coconut husk and skin? Is there a significant effect with regards to strength and stiffness for the particle board produced that used starch as binder compared to the board without binder? Is there a significant difference between the particle board produced and the commercial boards? Is it more efficient to use the particle board produced than the commercial boards?

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the study are: The study aims to produce a particle board made from coconut husk and skin with starch as additional binder. To determine the physical properties of the particle board produced by testing for its strength and stiffness. To determine the difference in level of strength and stiffness of the particle board produced with the commercial boards.

HYPOTHESIS NULL HYPOTHESIS: Producing particle board from coconut husk and skin is not feasible. There is no significant effect with regards to strength and stiffness for the particle board produced that used starch as binder compared to the board without binder. There is no significant difference between the particle board produced and the commercial boards. It is not efficient to use the particle board produced than the commercial boards.

ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS: Producing particle board from coconut husk and skin is feasible. There is a significant effect with regards to strength and stiffness for the particle board produced that used starch as binder compared to the board without binder. There is a significant difference between the particle board produced and the commercial boards. It is more efficient to use the particle board produced than the commercial boards.
