AASL Learning Standard 4.2.4 Dispositions in Action 4.2.4 Show an appreciation for literature by electing to read for pleasure and expressing an interest in various literacy genres. Target Audience This video will target elementary students aged 8-9. The demographics consist of 58% White, 7 % multiracial, 25% Black, 1% Asian, and 9% Hispanic. Eighteen percent have tested gifted and 79% qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students range from 3rd-4th grade and have limited experience with legitimate research sites, search engines, research techniques and technological equipment. They are mostly kinesthetic and visual learners who are used to learning in a small group setting. They enjoy lessons that include technological aspects and like to be involved in a hands on setting. 1. Attention Grabber The video will grab the students attention by having the narrator look directly into the camera and speak towards the students. This will help students feel included as participants and actors in the video.. 2. Relevance Factor Students will receive valuable information on the different literacy genres, how to identify the text features of each, and how to use their interests and hobbies to select just right books. They will be able to transfer the acquired information immediately into practice for their school assignments.

3. Confidence Factor By providing students with more information on a variety of genres and displaying the key characteristics of each genre in a fun animated way, students will feel more confident when they have the opportunity to select their own books. 4. Satisfaction Factor By seeing and hearing interesting examples of each genre, students will feel less daunted by the different sections in the library and will feel more confident in selecting books outside of their favorite genres. They will better understand literary text features for a variety of genres. Objective: Given current literary examples of each genre and their defining characteristics, third and fourth grade students will be able to selects books, analyze text features, and classify the correct genre as deemed acceptable by project rubrics provided by their classroom teacher.
