A-hadis is a collection of traditions containing sayings of the prophet Muhammad that, with accounts of his daily practice (the Sunna), constitute the major source of guidance for Muslims apart from the Quran. It is a record of the sayings and actions of Muhammad, and serves as a major source of religious law (Sharia) and moral guidance for Muslims. The collection of these traditions, which includes thousands of hadith, was initiated around 700 AD, two centuries after the death of the prophet Muhammad.
