Enzymes: How it changed the Textile Industry

A group report presented by : Maningding Verocel Chacon Regis Antonio

Introduction
A textile or what we commonly know as cloth is a flexible woven material that consists of an arrangement of natural or artificial fibres often considered as thread or yarn. It is frequently made by spinning unprocessed fibres of cotton, wool or other materials to produce longer strands. Textiles have different uses. The most common use of this is for clothing and different containers such as bags. It can also be used in the household. It can be used as carpet, bed sheet, pillow cases and different furnishings. There are many more uses of textiles in workplaces and other miscellaneous activities.

Introduction
That is why nowadays, the use of textile is very vital and crucial to our society since it can be transformed or processed into different useful materials. But if we will think of it, production of materials from textiles can result to problems to our environment. Different factories use harmful chemicals in production. That is why biotechnologists had to make a move about this. We will further discuss in this report the action that biotechnologists made towards the solving of this problem and innovation of the textile manufacturing industry.

Summary
Textiles have many uses and were invented way back to the ancient times. The processes became more complicated and materials used in making textiles have many choices due to the passage of time therefore, producing enhanced and better textiles. Even though those textiles are enhanced and better, the process of making these textiles nowadays affects society in a bad way and people do not even know it. There are different factories that uses harmful substances in the production of textiles wherein it affects the environment. That is why biotechnologists thought of a way to lessen the pollution or harm to the environment by using enzymes in the making of textiles. With this, the effect using enzymes in textiles are less toxic, eco- friendly and reduces the consumption of natural resources.
