THERE was a stir at Party of National Unity (PNU) headquarters in Nairobi as angry
suppliers protested over delay by the party to pay them.

Gachoka Member of Parliament Rev Mutava Musyimi was forced to leave his car at the
party headquarters after a meeting to escape the wrath of the suppliers and was offered
a lift by his Siakago counterpart Lenny Kivuti. The protesting suppliers blocked the
entrance over Shs 50 million in unpaid dues.

They asked President Kibaki to intervene saying their pleas to have their due settled
had fallen on deaf ears.

A businessman Sammy Mucheru said he is owed Shs 6 million after he supplied the
Kibaki Tena campaign secretariat with 40 four-wheel drive vehicles.

Another trader who sought anonymity said he was owed Shs 1.5 million after supplying
posters and T-shirts for the campaigns.

The traders accused party's executive director Lee Karuri of hoodwinking them for the
last four months. Every attempt to get paid, Mucheru said, had not worked.
