Watershed Modeling in ArcGIS 9.

2, 2008 Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT)

This tutorial is to use SWAT in ArcMap 9.2. Copy to your folder Lab 5 SWAT data from \\GIS4 All user files MUST be in the same directory. All SWAT data has to be in one folder SWAT has to be installed in ArcGIS 9.2 prior to use and show up in tools extensions. Start ArcMap 9.2 and check, if SWAT appears.

Select Tool menu, and then select Extinctions

Mark SWAT Project Manager and SWAT Watershed delineator

Customize your Tools Mark ArcSWAT

Now it should appear on your computer the following toolbar

Click SWAT project Setup, select New SWAT Project

Fill in spaces your Project directory, SWAT Project Geodatabase, Raster Storage, and SWAT Parameters Geodatabase.

Select from the main menu the Watershed Delineator

Select the DEM input grid Load DEM grid from disk Select file: project_edcr1

Add o the ArcMap

Review the DEM projection Setup

Click Mask Select Option: Manually Delineate

Click the Draw button and draw Mask in ArcMAP.

Apply Selected MASK

Left mouse click on the Flow direction and accumulation button

It may take several minutes for the Click on Stream network and Create streams and outlets

Watershed Outlet(s) Selection and Definition Click on the Whole watershed outlet(s) - Select. Drag square on the outlet area you should get light blue dot.

Click on the Delineate watershed ok

Click on calculate subbasin parameters button

Review the watershed report

Click exit

Watershed Delineation Clean Up should appear.

Next Select HSU Analysis Land Use/Soils/Slope Definition

Follow steps

Select Polygon feature classes

Choose Grid Field Value Ok

Select LULC USGS Table

On the SWAT Land Use Classification Table click on the empty place beneath of LandUseSwat Select on the Land Cover Databse crop

Select Agricultural Land Close-grown-AGRC

Click Reclassify

Next select Soil Data

Select Soil file from disk

You soil layer should look like the following layer

Choose Grid Field Value Click OK

Select Options Name

Double-click on the boxes beneath Name and enter these names for the following value fields: (1) Precambrian (2) Llmestone (3) Sandstone (4) Alluvium

Reclassify

Soil Classification should look like this

Select single slope Reclassify

Mark Create HRU Feature Class

Click Overlay

In HRU (Hydrologic Response Units) Analysis Select Dominant Land Use, Soil, Slope

Review Reports

Select Write Input Tables Weather Stations

Select Weather Generator Data file wgnstations.dbf

Rainfall Data

Temperature data

Relative humidity data

Solar Radiation Data

Wind speed data Click OK OK

So, all your InputWeather Stations for each variable should be the following files (not bulleting the simulation button): Rainfall Data: precipssmi1.dbf Solar Radiation: solarradiationtable.dbf Temperature: temptable.dbf Wind Speed: windtable.dbf Relative Humidity: humtable.dbf Weather Simulation: Custom Database: wgnstations.dbf
Next Write All

SWAT Simulation - Run SWAT

Select Setup SWAT Run.

A new button will appear (Run SWAT) select it

Read SWAT Output
