Definition of Indian Urban Society


1. All places with a corporation, municipality, cantonment board or notified town area committee ( as per 2001 census ) 2. All other places with a minimum population of 5000 and where at least 75% of the male working population is engaged in non-agricultural pursuits and where the density of population is above 400 per sq. km. are treated as Urban Areas. 3. What is not covered by Urban Area definition is Rural.
