Slate brings political Gabfest to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. A live taping of Slate Magazines Gabfest will take place April 18 at 6 p.m. in University Church. Slate editor David Plotz will host along with John Dickerson, Slates chief political correspondent, and Emily Bazelon, senior editor for the magazine. Topics of discussion are set to include the Republican primary, the Indiana primary and the Obama presidency. All students are welcome to attend, regardless of major. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis; however, those wishing to attend, can register for free online at http://slate.com/gabfest. With 49% of ages 18-24 voting in the 2008 election, Professor Jane Natt, one of the organizers of the event, sees it as a great opportunity for students to be informed about current events, in an entertaining way. It's a great chance to get a behind the scenes, firsthand look at the making of a popular, influential show, said Natt. Senior Yoli Santos, who will be attending the podcast recording, said she has not heard of Slate until now and has very little knowledge of podcasts. She believes Gabfest is a unique opportunity for students to attain a greater understanding of these things, while gaining a better awareness of the upcoming election. ### Contact information: Christie Hilbrich: chilbric@purdue.edu, 219-789-9993 Jane Natt: natt@purdue.edu, 765-494-3322 Yoli Santos: ymsantos11@gmail.com, 317-985-6089 Sources: U.S. Census Bureau: http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/voting/cb09-110.html Slate is a daily online current affairs magazine, owned by The Washington Post Company, which deals with topics such as; politics, news, business, technology and culture.
