The article goes in depth about the different types of Old English poetry. It discusses the undercurrents of religion and struggles for the few poems still around today to be told from generation to generation and still survive. Specifically poems like Beowulf that are lengthy and people could have trouble translating over hundreds of years. Also, certain authors such as Cynewulf that include poetic devices in their writing such as kenning, words put together used as a synonym for a simple noun. This article was very useful in explaining the history and what is consistent in Anglo-Saxon Literature, prose, poems, and stories.
