January 3, 2013 To Whom It May Concern, It has been an honor and privilege to have Marissa Talvy as my student teacher

during the fall semester of 2012. She has proven to be an enthusiastic, dedicated, and outstanding teacher during her time at Berkeley Glenn Elementary School. During her student teaching experience, from October to December, I was very impressed with Miss Talvys teaching abilities. She demonstrated a clear understanding of the Virginia Standards of Learning, and was eager to plan, prepare, and teach lessons around these. She used a wide variety of strategies, and understood the importance of differentiated instruction based on the varying needs of the students in our classroom. Miss Talvy would plan for two levels of instruction in her math lessons, and would be sure to provide ample time to re-teach lessons to those who did not gain the material, and challenge those students whom already had mastery of the objectives and goals set. During language arts, she had to plan two lessons for groups with varied reading abilities as well. Miss Talvy was also instrumental in the implementation of various behavior modification ideas in dealing with difficult behaviors in our classroom. Some of these worked so well, I have continued to use them. Miss Talvy easily established a rapport with her students, parents, and the staff at Berkeley Glenn. She is a team player, whom has proved to be conscientious, responsible, and dependable. She contributed many ideas and techniques during our common planning sessions. She is eager to listen to constructive criticism, and quickly incorporate ideas and activities into her next lessons. It is with great pleasure that I recommend Marissa Talvy for a teaching position in your school division. She will be an exemplary teacher in your school.

Sincerely,

Melissa Wormley First Grade Teacher Berkeley Glenn Elementary, Waynesboro City Schools
