Teaching Science for all Children: An Inquiry Approach is a great resource for teachers to help students grasp the nature of science and understand the interactions between science and technology. In particular Chapter 8, which is about integrating technology so that it enriches Science learning, starts off with two different science classroom scenarios. Scenario 1 is about elementary students with access to a wide variety of Educational Technologies and talks about all the different technologies they use in the classroom to enhance their science learning. Internet databases to look up stream quality, computers to enter new data and create bar graphs, digital cameras to take pictures of the stream they are studying, video editing software and video conference technology to talk to an aquatic biologist, are some of the Education Technologies that these students use in their science classroom. The second scenario was about elementary students with access to a few educational technologies such as cassette recorders, computers and internet access to help with their science project Kinderpals, where sixth graders are paired with the kindergarten students in an effort to provide the sixth graders with an audience to share their understanding of science with. This chapter also talks about why we should use technology in the science classroom, stating that appropriate applications of educational technology can extend the learning environment beyond the confines of the classroom and can provide inquiry-based learning opportunities that stimulate your students and provide an atmosphere for scientific discovery References:
