This article is about a film. For the town of the same name, see Kadal (town) Kadal (English: The Sea) is a 2013 Indian Tamil drama film[6] directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam.[5] The film features debutantes Gautham Karthik,[7] son of actor Karthik, and Thulasi Nair,[8] daughter of Radha, in the lead roles. The film marks comeback of actor Arvind Swamy.[9] The music and background score for the film is done by A. R. Rahman. The film revolves around life of Christian fishermen who instill the fact that how faith can sometimes lead to the triumph of humanity.[10] The film is titled Kadali, as the dubbed Telugu version.[11][12] The film was released worldwide on 1 February 2013 in both the versions.[3] The film received mixed reviews from critics and lukewarm response from audience. From the main film aspects, the cinematography, music and background score were critically applauded.
