The denomination structure of the new note series will be Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000 and a new currency note of Rs. 5,000. For the first time, the note series was designed by two Sri Lankan designers selected from an islandwide competition. The front side of the new series bears an artists impression of selected development projects in Sri Lanka and endemic birds and butterflies that can be seen in Sri Lanka.
