Paris is a compact city, no more than six kilometers across at its widest point.

Walking is therefore a reasonable way to travel to many destinations. When heading across town, there are a host of public transportation options. Public transport is operated by the RATP and includes the metro subway system, RER trains, buses, Montmartrobus and the Montmartre funicular railway, all of which accept the same tickets and passes.

By purchasing a special pass called Paris Visite, you can avoid waiting in queues to buy tickets. A Paris Visite pass gives you the opportunity for an unlimited number of trips on all types of Parisian public transport.
