Title of Lesson: Religions Around The World Subject: Social Studies Grade Level: 6 Teacher: Mr.

Flowers Objective(s): By completing contrast charts and playing a competitive game, the student will gain the knowledge of differences of the major religions around the world. SCSDE Curriculum Standard(s) Addressed: 6-2.1 Compare the origins, founding leaders, basic principles, and diffusion of major religions and philosophies as they emerged and expanded, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and Taoism. Materials/Preparation: Dry-Erase Board Dry-Erase Markers Procedures: The teacher will begin by asking the What is religion? After the students have given their definition of religion, the teacher will give the correct definition. Students are to copy notes that are written on the board. The teacher will then ask the class to name the different types of religions around the world. After the religions are named, the teacher will begin describing each of the religions to the class. While the teacher is describing each of the religions, the teacher will begin discussing the descriptions for Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Confucianism, Taoism, and Hinduism. The teacher will then review with the students the origin, founding leader(s), and principles for each. The teacher will also ask the student for any additional questions or concerns. Based on their notes, the students will be instructed to create a table giving the descriptions of each religion. After the students are complete, the students will turn in their work for accuracy. The teacher will then introduce a game to make sure each student knows the information about each religion. The teacher will call on students randomly and ask them different questions. Informal Observation: The teacher will check the students knowledge by playing the competitive game. Adaptations: During the game, the teacher will be able to recognize if a student does not comprehend the information. To help the student comprehend, the teacher and the class will discuss the question as a whole.
