Its a conflic over territory and partly a religious conflict as well.

This conflict started in 19th century, then it became violent and is still present today. this is a conflict between The Jews and the Arabs, both wanting to attaining sovereignty. Hamas is a Palestinian organization which has governed the Gaza strip since june 2007. The Gaza strip and the west Bank are areas governed by a Palestine Organisation (PLO) which means Palestine Liberation Organization. These areas where set by Arabs but some Jewish people also live there. The USA role in this conflict is that they always cease-fire by being friends of both of them.
