Muhammad and Menstruations
The Qur'an, Islam's Holy Book, expressly prohibits a man from approaching his wife
during her monthly cycle:

They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So
keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are
clean. But when they have purified themselves, ye may approach them in any
manner, time, or place ordained for you by Allah. For Allah loves those who turn to
Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.
Qur'an 2:222

"DO NOT APPROACH THEM"
Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife, understood this directive very well and, when in
menses, she used to leave the bed.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said about a person who had intercourse with
his wife while she was menstruating: He must give one dinar or half a dinar in alms.

We would therefore expect Muhammad to avoid all contact with women during
their menses especially when he is supposed to serve as an example for Muslims* to
emulate.

Certainly you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exemplar for him who
hopes in Allah and the latter day and remembers Allah much.

Yet instead of avoiding women during their courses, Muhammad wasnt able to
control his sexual desires since he would approach his wives to "fondle" them
during their "pollution":

Narrated Maimuna:
When ever Allah's Apostle wanted to fondle any of his wives during the periods
(menses), he used to ask* her to wear an Izar.

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad:
(on the authority of his father) 'Aisha said: "Whenever Allah's Apostle wanted to
fondle anyone of us during her periods (menses), he used to order her to put on an

desires as the Prophet could."

It is important to note here that Aisha didnt say "once" or "sometimes" but
specifically stated that Muhammad "used to" act in this way, and did so "whenever
he wanted to", i.e. this was his common and regular behavior.

Ikrimah reported on the authority of one of the wives of the Prophet

garment on her private part.

"to fondle" or "to contact"
or "to kiss" or "to embrace"
or "to do something" etc.
But in his Qur'an,
Allah used this word to mean
"to have sexual relations"

So now have sexual relations with them and seek that which Allh has ordained for
you (offspring), and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to
you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night),

Defiling the Qur'an?
Muslims do not dare touch the Quran in a state of ritual impurity and will often wash
their hands before touching their scripture. And yet Muhammad used to read the
Qur'an on Aisha's lap while she was in menses.

The Prophet used to lean on my lap and recite Qur'an* while I was in menses.

Impure Ablutions*!
*Washing or wiping parts of the body with water as part of a religious rite.
It is mandated by the Qur'an that every Muslim should perform an Ablution (must clean
oneself) with clean water before performing Salat (prayer).

The well of Buda'ah*
*A well into which menstrual clothes, dead dogs and stinking things were thrown.
According to Muhammad, water containing menstrual discharge is clean and pure
and Muslims are allowed to use it for Ablutions!!!

ablution out of the well of Buda'ah, which is a well into which menstrual clothes,
dead dogs and stinking things were thrown? He replied: Water is pure and is not
defiled by anything.

Translation:
...he said: You wouldn't like it if I give you water from the well of Buda'ah to drink.
But by Allah, I gave from it to the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) with my own hands. He
added: For its water was abundant and was not affected by the women's
menstruations and the human waste and the flesh of the dogs.
