CAMERA ANGLES/SHOTS TERMS

1. Establishing- sets up or the setting up of a scene 2. Close up- Tightly frames a person or object to show detail or emotion. 3. Medium- Shot from waist or knees up from a medium distance. Generally shows body language and less specific detail. 4. Long Shot- Shows the entire figure or object often in relation to its surroundings. 5. Tracking- Follows the action at a constant distance. It keeps the subject on screen. 6. Swish- moves the camera from one subject to another very quickly. 7. Aerial- Shows the entire image from a high position. 8. Handheld- Filmed from the cameramans hands; therefore, it is a little shaky. Can be used to show the subjects perspective or feeling 9. Zoom- Either zooms in to isolate the subject or zooms out to show it in a wider context. 10. Arc- Camera moves around the object in a circular motion in order to show the image from more angles. 11. Head on- When the action comes straight to the camera. 12. High angle- The camera is located above the subject and films down on it. Sometimes used to show which character is more powerful. 13. Reverse angle- Switches between the two or more subjects in a dialogue scene. Shot from the other side of the subject. 14. Low angle- Typically a shot filmed from knees up. Can show how powerful the character is in a conversation.
