Codes and Regulations: Our caf, just like all buildings, require certain codes and regulations.

We must follow Universal Design and follow ADA requirements, as well as International Building Codes, and local ordinances. This includes things such as minimum door width, elevators, landscape, and slope of landings, and much more. Austin, Texas, the location of our caf uses the 2009 International Building Code. Our caf would be considered as an Assembly-1 (A-1) for Use and Occupancy classification. The Universal Design requirements, such as door widths having to be 36 inches wide and passage widths have to be 42 inches wide. Hallways and rooms must allow a five foot turning radius for wheelchair accessibility. This is very important for the bathrooms. They must have grab bars, adaptable cabinets, and an accessible layout. The switches and controls must be located at accessible heights, 4448 inches. Phone jacks must be at accessible heights, at least 18 inches. The minimum number of exits is two. This is because it is only one story. There must be no stairs in the way of the entry. A covered entry for weather protection, along with a pathway from the street or driveway is required. This building can hold 269 people at a time. The green roof can hold 156 people, but they cannot be added to the total amount of people because they will have to be able to go to the first floor, in case of an emergency. That means the bottom floor can only hold 256 people at a time. The green roof must include: Plant material Growing medium Filter fabric Drainage layer Waterproof membrane Root barrier
