My husband and I were unable to attend the parent teacher conferences last night. Does Mason still have an opportunity to get his missing assignments turned in? Please let me know what he needs to do to bring his grade up. Thank you for your time. From: matt.lakis@southeastpolk.org Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2013 9:37 AM To: Parent #1 Subject: Re: Student Name Ms. S., Thank you for the email! I am Matt Lakis, Ms. Larson's student teacher. I have been working with Mason since the beginning of the semester and have been pushing him to get those essays in the past couple of weeks. Of course, we will accept Mason's missing work at any point during the semester. Ms. Larson's policy is once the assignment's due date has passed by more than 2 days, we will offer half credit for any date there after. Tell Mason, he is more than welcome to turn in his missing work because as I'm sure you know, his grade right now does not reflect his writing skill or ability. Let me know if I can help you with anything and please feel free to email any of us if you have any more questions. Thank you, Matt Lakis From: Parent #1 Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2013 9:37 AM To: matt.lakis@southeastpolk.org Subject: Re: Re: Student name Thank you for getting back to me. I have been on him about his grade and will keep pushing him to get those assignments in---some points are better than none at all! Hope you have a great spring break! ________________________________________________________________________________________________ From: Parent #2 Date: Monday, February 25, 2013 Subject: Student name

To: Supervising Teacher <Forwarded from Supervising Teacher on maternity leave> Hi Emily, I am going through Jaxson's assignments and in infinite campus it shows he has two missing assignments. Are those still not turned in? If not, is there anything he needs to complete them tonight? (Worksheets etc). Thank you Brandy From: matt.lakis@southeastpolk.org Date: Monday, February 25, 2013 Subject: Re: Student name To: Parent #2 Brandy, This is Matt Lakis, Ms. Larson's student teacher. I have been working with Jaxson since early this month and I would be happy to fill you in on his two missing assignments. Both missing assignments are short posts in the class forum on Moodle and neither can be made up once the due date has past. Since they are worth only 1 point each, that makes it nearly impossible to offer reduced credit for late completion. 2 points is definitely not too big of a deal in the grand scheme of things; especially for Jaxson, who I'm confident will be raising his grade with the next assignment, a 1-2 pg book review essay. The review will be worth about 50 points and if Jaxson follows the checklist I gave him (also posted on Moodle), he should have no problem raising his grade. The assignment is due tomorrow. Thank you for checking in on Jaxson's status in the class. It's not often that parents take the time to make sure their son/daughter is doing well in school. I appreciate you contacting Emily/me; feel free to email me whenever you have a question. I also think it's important that you know Jaxson is a joy to have in class and his in-class participation has really contributed to a wonderful class environment. Have a great night and again, feel free to email me with any questions you may have in the future.

Mr. B, My name is Matt Lakis and I am Lexie's Popular Fiction teacher. I am currently filling in for Ms. Larson who is on maternity leave. I wanted to let you know that I spoke to [the assistant principal] this afternoon and I am aware of Lexie's situation. It must be very difficult to balance her knee and school work. From what I understand, she's concerned about her grades slipping and its causing her some unnecessary stress. I want to let you know that Lexie is currently sitting at a B in the course (I adjusted her Moodle scores). The only thing she is still missing is part of her in-class packet, which once she turns in will significantly raise her grade. This is not something that she needs to worry about either, as I will work with her whenever she is here to get it done. I also want you to be aware of how enjoyable Lexie is to have in class. She is a strong writer and really helps lift everyone's mood when she is able to attend class. I see no reason why she won't finish with an A or B this semester. Hopefully this email helps Lexie relax a bit and focus more on getting better and less on turning her work in on time. It's not too often parents take the time to show an interest in what their child is doing in school, so thank you for voicing your concern. If there is anything at all that I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you, Matt Lakis

Her knee is improving and she is working to be at school more to take advantage of being in class. Thank you again
