I have known Dani for three years: six months as her subordinate, six months as her colleague, and two years as her manager at lululemon athletica. I am privileged to be able to write this letter from these three viewpoints and offer you the perspective many people do not get the chance of experiencing with one person. As her subordinate, Dani was thoughtful, kind and inspirational. She was able to take large concepts and make them digestible for our entire team. She played to our strengths and made our team feel as though you were making a great contribution. She challenged us to think outside the box while maintaining company standards and adhering to policies, and never settled for mediocre, among herself as a leader, and among our team. As her colleague, Dani was there to support your goals, challenge your ideas and strengthen your performance. She made us a team by being a coach, friend, mentor and sounding board, perhaps all in the span of an hour. Our companys mission is to elevate the world to greatness, and she took a stand for this daily among our leadership team. As her manager, Dani was the type of team member you pray for. She listened and came through with thoughtful and strategic ideas to continue developing our people, community and business. She was honest when she made a mistake, and always looked for opportunities to improve herself. She also brought this standard to management and held us accountable to being great leaders. Most of all, she could be trusted. Her integrity was never challenged and there is no one I could count on more. Theres a saying we use at lululemon, The Law of Attraction, in summary, like attracts like. Dani embodied this trait in every setting I found in myself with her. You wanted to be around her positivity, strength and humor; and she elevated you through clarity, grace and honesty. With Dani by your side, in any role, you are lucky.
