Advent Devotion

Are we there yet? Ahhh, the famous words heard from the mouths of all children as they travel. And notice that they dont ask just once, but over and over and over again. Their impatience is much like our own. We often ask questions like how much more homework can we possibly do? It seems like it takes forever to get to where we want to be. Much like our waiting, the Israelites waited with eager expectation the coming of the Messiah. Prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah foretold of His coming. Their words brought much hope for the people who waited for the deliverance that the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace would bring (Isaiah 9:6). When would He come? Baalam, blessed by God, declared that a powerful King would arise from Jacobs lineage. Numbers 24:17 reads, I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. The Messiahs coming would be heralded by a star. Later generations watched for such a sign and followed that star to the birthplace of the Savior in Bethlehem. Advent is a time in which we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and also a time in which we anticipate Christs second coming. As we journey through this time of Advent, let us take a moment now to reflect on our own impatience and to pray for His strength and endurance during this time of anticipation. Pray
