TEMPERATURE CHANGES IN EXOTHERMIC AND ENDOTHERMIC REACTION Exothermic reaction-An exothermic process releases heat, and causes the temperature of the immediate surroundings to rise. An endothermic process absorbs heat and cools the surroundings. Endothermic reactions draw heat from the reactants / products and the environment, so they tend to get cooler as the reaction proceeds. Exothermic reactions release heat to the reactants / products and the environment, so they tend to get hotter as the reaction proceeds.
