Impromptu speeches I used this activity to support preparation for Cambridge exams (PET) Preparation Print the topics

on card and laminate if possible. Its good to use the same topics several times before switching.

Suggestions on how to use First time They work in pairs. Person A is given the card and person B times them and gives feedback. Students speak for 1 minute. Then person B gets a new topic and speaks for one minute. Teacher monitors and discusses afterwards. Second time Using the same cards each student in turn takes a card and speaks for 1 minute. I let them think about what they will say for up to a minute. Teacher times and gives feedback. Students who have done their speech can also give feedback. If they get a card they have used it is a bonus for them. Sometimes I choose topics for weaker students. The ideas were adapted from http://k6educators.about.com/cs/helpforteachers/a/impromptuspeech.htm Next step I do the same activity with pictures to practice part 3 speaking. I just download 2 pictures from the internet on the same topic.
