What are Fractions?

A fraction, or fractional number, is used to represent a part of a whole a numerator (which is above the line) and a denominator (which is below the line). The denominator tells you the number of equal parts into which something is divided. The numerator tells you how many of these equal parts are being considered.

Thus, if the fraction is of a pie, the denominator 5 tells you that the pie has been divided into 5 equal parts, of which 3 (numerator) are in the fraction.

What are DECIMALS?

The system of numbers that you use is called the decimal system and is based on powers of ten ( base ten system). Each place in the place value grid is ten times the value of the place to the right of it. Every number to the right of the decimal point is a decimal fraction. a fraction with a denominator of 10, 100, 1,000, and so on). Decimals are usually used in math.
