World War I Webquest: A British Perspective

Go to the following website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/worldwarone/ Timeline On the home page, look under the HQ heading and click on the link that says Timeline. 1. What is the name and date of the first battle in which British soldiers fought? 2. What is the name and date of the first battle that incorporated trench warfare? 3. What is the name and date of the first battle in which chemical gas was used? Which country first used the gas? 4. What happened to the British ship Lusitania in May 1915? 5. When did the British begin conscription? Who was subject to being drafted? What change to conscription was made in May 1916? 6. When were women given the right to vote in Britain? Were there any restrictions on womens suffrage? 7. What important event happened in Russia in March 1917? 8. When did the United States join the Allies? 9. When did Russia agree to a separate peace treaty with Germany? What was the name of this treaty? Who was leading the Russian government when this happened? 10. When was the armistice signed between Germany and the Allies?
