Question: Describe how England developed into a Constitutional Monarchy during the mid to late 1600s.

During the mid to late 1600s monarchs were trying to make their country the best it could possibly be. Although, this issue sometimes involved fighting with parliament. One monarch that had an extremely hard time getting along with parliament was Charles I. Their arguments were mostly about money and religious disagreements. This ongoing struggle to make ends meet would soon lead to changing the English government drastically. The disagreement over religion and the way Charles I ruled soon lead into the English Civil War. The war was an ongoing battle between parliament and the monarchs. During the Summer and Winter of 1643 it was looking to be that the areas under royal control were taking over and the war would end with a victory by the monarchs, but as time went on the areas controlled by monarchs slowly went down and by the summer of 1645 parliament had taken the win. Soon after the English Civil War parliament executed Charles I by beheading him. The next ruler was none other than the protestant monarch Oliver Cromwell. While England was under the ruling of Oliver Cromwell the government was supposedly a republic, although Oliver was taking the government into his own control turning it into a dictatorship. England began to go into restoration meaning that they were trying to get the government back to the way it was before Cromwell took over. During this restoration parliament invited William and Mary of Orange to be the next monarchs of England. Although, before they were to take the throne they had to sign the Bill of Rights. After the Bill of Rights was signed England was now under full control of William and Mary with a Constitutional Monarchy government system. During the 1600s religion and certain rulers had a huge impact on the way Englands government was ran. Although sometimes there were disagreements between parliament and the monarchs at the time, in the end the government system that resulted in these issues drastically changed England for the better. Having a Constitutional Monarchy government system would benefit England by allowing them to still have kings and queens but these rulers would not have absolute power over the country.
