2012: Massachusetts Merger & Acquisition Activity Continues to Increase

Massachusetts M&A activity continued to increase in 2012, with an 11% increase in the number of reported transactions over 2011. This continues the upward trend of 2011 and 2010 with increased activity of nearly 12% and 16% respectively. Of the 413 company sales in 2012, 183 reported transaction values. The largest portion of these (63 transactions) had values between $10 Million and $50 Million, and the smallest portion (4 transactions) had values greater than $1 Billion. Financials and Information Technology had the largest number of completed transactions with 127 and 94 respectively. The telecommunications and energy sectors had the fewest number of transactions with 0 and 1 respectively.
