Toledo, Ohio 43604 419-244-3333 April 6, 2012 To Whom it Concerns: As Instructional Coordinator and the previous Activities Director of Horizon Science Academy Toledo, I have had many opportunities to work closely with Tonya Schauwecker on a daily basis for three years. Mrs. Schauwecker is one of the most dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivating educators I have encountered in my career. Without a doubt, she was born to teach. Mrs. Schauwecker has taught Basic Writing, English II and III, and English II and III Honors with great success at Horizon Science Academy Toledo. Taking on the sole responsibility of preparing students for the Ohio Graduation Tests in Reading and Writing is a charge that many seasoned teachers would have shunned, but Mrs. Schauwecker approached the task with enthusiasm and zeal to excellent results. Last year, Mrs. Schauwecker was the only teacher in our school district who was able to push her students to accomplish the acceptable level of achievement on the Ohio Graduation Test in both of her subjects an incredible achievement no doubt. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Schauwecker took on many additional extra-curricular activities and advisory positions, including, 11th Grade Chair Committee Head, Junior Class Advisor, President of the Advisors Council, Prom Advisor, Varsity Basketball Coach, Student Publications Advisor, Peer to Peer Tutoring Advisor, student Fantasy Football League Advisor, and acted as chaperone for dances, school functions, and field trips. Mrs. Schauwecker coached her girls basketball team to undefeated seasons in 2011 and 2012, another major accomplishment. While Mrs. Schauwecker would surely be missed at Horizon Science Academy Toledo, she will make an excellent addition to another school. Her dedication to the students, not only through education, but also through her devotion to their wellbeing and her ability to work cooperatively with other staff members makes her an invaluable asset to any school.
