ABSTRACT

As a major play wright, Miller got reputation from all over the world. His artistic vision could be even remotely perceived as political theatre about ethics, morals and political movements. The recurrent themes and philosophies in his work marked him as a master of his craft or renowned play wright in 1947. Here present topics death of a salesman deals with the same issues, must encompass the close study of the celebration of life and mourning for death in Arthur Millers play. Willys dreams of success are rooted in the concept of American dream. Millers hero not simply an individual who determined on an objective and strives desperately to attain it. His false ideal of success based on well liked personality which comes to an end because of the changing capital society. Business civilisation tells Willy that selling is a task as whole and complex as that of any artisan but the product of Willys labor are never concrete and observable. A psychological of death of a salesman allows the play to be seen as one man flight from shame and his own weakened selfimage. The statement- I am tired to death by Willy, reveals a state of selfdepletion which character is not truly aware of. Willys arrogant attitude often shadowed by a sense of doubt. Wills shameful life is well portrait in the play. This shame full realisation comes out of frustrations of life that Willy alone is responsible for his own tragic end. This is why Willy feels there is dignity in death that will give his son a life in terms of 20 Dollars. After all though it can be said that death is the only dignified thing Willy has done throughout the play. Willys pathetic fool who is crushed by the world around him. Although the psychological stand point concludes that Willy is not destroyed by the society rather his own personal unconsciousness.
