Czechoslovakia

Czechoslovakia was a sovereign state in central Europe that existed in October 1918 until it got its independence and became the Czech Republic on January 1993. The latest leader in Czechoslovakia was Ladislav Adamec and currently in Czech Republic the first leader was Vaclav Havel and the current president is Milos Zeman.

The Velvet Revolution is the non-violent revolution that took place from November 17 to December 29, 1989.

The victory of the Velvet Revolution was topped off by human activist Vaclav Havel. Free elections held in June 1990 legitimized this government and set the stage for the changes needed to deal with the remnants of the Communist partys power and the legacy of the Communist period on popular values and expectations

Today, Czechoslovakia is known as Czech Republic. The country is bordered by Germany to the West, Austria to the East, Slovakia to the East and Poland to the North. Prague is its capital as the largest city with almost 1.3 million inhabitants. The Czech Republic is a fully democratic country with a stable political culture and growing economic power.
