For Immediate Release From: Scarborough School Department May 16, 2013

The student population of the Scarborough Schools is growing. Unlike Wentworth School, Scarborough Middle School, and Scarborough High School, the Scarborough Primary Schools are the only schools in the district with students assigned by neighborhood. Due to the shifts in housing developments and increasing incoming Kindergarten numbers, the class sizes at the three primary schools have become inequitable. In order to maintain equitable class sizes at all three schools, some neighborhoods will be reassigned from the Blue Point School to Eight Corners School. This change will impact only newly enrolling students in Kindergarten, first, and second grades and will be based on home address. All students currently enrolled in school and attending Blue Point will be able to complete their primary phase at Blue Point. The first area being impacted are the streets between Payne Road and the marsh including Plantation Drive, Scottow Hill Road, Lillian Way, and Two Rod Road. The second area includes Mitchell Hill Road, Freedom Road, Fengler Road, Howard Lane, and Holmes Road. Approximately 16 students will be impacted by these reassignments. For a complete list of streets impacted, please contact the Scarborough School Department at 730-4100.
