Emily Swarts p. 3 The Power of Energy Scientists use matter and energy to describe everything around us.

Energy is the ability to move things. It allows things to change. Energy is not the ability to do work. Everything we do takes energy. It is also connected with the way things stay together. It comes in many forms such as light, sound, chemical, and electrical. Powerful Forms Energy is divided into two main forms: kinetic and stored. All forms of energy fall under one of those types. Kinetic energy involves motion one way or another. A moving object has kinetic energy. Stored energy is also called potential energy. Energy is stored in matter. It has the potential to change into kinetic energy. Chemical, Mechanical, and Nuclear are all types of stored energy. Powering the Universe There is the same amount of energy today as there was when the Universe began because energy never disappears. It may change form, but it never goes away. The original energy from the sun has changed forms but it is not lost. The amount of energy n the universe will always stay the same. Energy is a characteristic of matter. Matter can be created from energy, and energy can be created from matter. That idea is what made Albert Einstein famous. There are many ways to measure energy. Two units of measurement for energy are calories and watts.
