This House Believe That Teacher-Centered Teaching Methods and Traditional Education at The Primary Level Have Done

our Children More Harm than Good

Teacher Centered Methods or Direct Instruction Model refers to academically focused, teacher-centered classroom using sequenced and structured materials. It refers to teaching activities where goals are clear to students, time allocated for instruction is sufficient and continuous, coverage of content is extensive, the performance of student is monitored. In Teacher Centered, the teacher controlls instructional goals, chooses materials appropriate for students ability and paces the instructional episode. (Model of Instruction; p.292)

Traditional education refers to long-established customs found in schools that society has traditionally deemed appropriate. Some forms of education reform promote the adoption of progressive education practices, a more holistic approach which focuses on individual students' needs and self-expression. In the eyes of reformers, traditional teachercentered methods focused on rote learning and memorization must be abandoned in favor of student-centered and task-based approaches to learning.(www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_education) Primary education is the first stage of compulsory education. Primary education is provided in schools, where the child will stay in steadily advancing classes until they complete it and move on to high school/secondary school. (www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_education) From the explaination above this motion talking about the traditional education condition in Primary School level with Teacher Centered learning for learning methods has a more disadvantages than advantages for student. In my opinion teacher centered may help student in primary school because in this school levels student (age range 5-12 years old) still in concrete cognitive which they receiving the information and instruction instantly, they have not to be response critically to the information or instruction yet. So, when student in this level have applied with an instruction like Lecture Discussion it will be make student in primary school to be misconcept and even overloaded creativity.
