Abu Talib was the uncle of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). He was the chief of the Quraish tribe.

He did not accept Islam, though he loved prophet Muhammed very much. Mawlid, Milaad-un-Nabi: This was not celebrated during the time of the prophet, sahaba and tabaeen. This seems to be a later construction.
