Guidance in statistical assignments in Philosophy of Science


Number of assignments There will be 3 assignments in the semester one for each statistical subject in the semester. The assignments will be uploaded on CampusNet one and a half week before the guidance in groups. Guidance in how to solve the assignments takes place in the following weeks: Week 40 and 41: Week 45 and 46: Week 50 and 51: Experiment analysis Regression analysis Factor analysis

The course of guidance Each group will meet the instructor in 20 minutes in each assignment week (see above) corresponding to 40 minutes per group for each subject. At the meeting the group will discuss how to progress with the assignment. The instructor will assist the students to understand the assignment and in the solution of it. The first meeting will offer some guidance in how to get started or good advice to progress; the second meeting will follow up the groups work. Remember that it is more important to solve three questions correct that solving the whole assignment. It is not the target to solve all questions but to gain increased understanding of the method in question. Before the meeting, material can be sent to the instructor which can be used as a basis for the discussion at the meeting. The following things cannot be expected to be read/looked at: SPSS output files Full answers to the assignments Unstructured input Material without questions The groups are expected to in order to assist in the guidance: Briefly state your work and results Formulate those questions you wish to discuss Formulate those questions that will help you to progress/solve the assignments. The meetings are entirely voluntary and will only be useful for the group if you have made an effort with the assignment before the first meeting. Handing in/correction of assignments The assignments are voluntary, however we strongly recommend you to solve them. The assignments are not to be handed in. In connection with the guidance the group can ask questions to the assignments in order to ensure that the assignments are answered correctly. After each subject we will upload an SPSS output that might be necessary to answer the assignment however without any comments to this output.
