Sir, The recent accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway and the other numerous accid ents which occur

daily in our Mumbai city has got me thinking. We cannot always depend on the authorities to function. Most of these accidents can be prevented by adopting some simple but effective m eans. My thoughts are jotted down below: 1) The top ten accident-prone sites in Maharashtra have been identified and publ ished in the media also. However, it is surprising that even in today's newspaper it is mentioned that th e accident-prone spot at Manor has no signboard or message to caution the drivers. Since, Mahindra is a leading manufacturer of automobiles, i think that it would be a perfect fit of CSR as well brand-building if Mahindra 'adopts' these accident spots and conducts a professi onal study on enhancing the safety measures at these accident spots and implements th e same. 2) Similarly most accidents in Mumbai occur due to lack of effective accident pr evention mechanisms like a) improper traffic management at U-turns b) improper segregation of the pathway approaching and descending from the flyov ers which merge with the traffic from the ground-level roads c) installing functioning timers at the traffic signals d) filling up major cracks on the flyovers which occur during the construction o f the flyover. This is very dangerous for two wheelers. I sincerely believe that if your esteemed organisation takes up this cause it wi ll benefit the general public as well as result in saving many precious lives.
