PROJECTILE MOTION Three things influence an objects projectile motion at the beginning of its flight: SPEED OF RELEASE The

greater the speed, the further the horizontal distance.

ANGLE OF RELEASE The optimal angle of release for most projectiles is 45 degs, if trying for distance.
Discuss Javelin throw

HEIGHT OF RELEASE The higher the height of release, the further the horizontal distance.

Once an object is in the air, two things will influence its movement and direction; GRAVITY and AIR RESISTANCE. The path a projectile takes, travelling through the air is called a trajectory or parabola. Refer figure 6.17 Question: How would you coach a player who wanted to improve the horizontal distance they could get from the following sports, knowing what you know, about projectile motion? Explain in detail why you are getting them to do what ever it is they are doing. Volleyball serve, tennis serve, golf swing, hockey stroke, rugby pass, running.
