ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF GIVING SEA CUCUMBER POWDER ON THE LEVELS OF ESTRADIOL IN OVARIECTOMIZED MICE BY

Muhammad Dzikrifishofa

Sea cucumber is well known as the raw material for cosmetics as well as medicines. Testosterone hormone is one of the substances contained in sea cucumber. Testosterone can be modified into estradiol by adding some aromatase enzyme as a catalyst. The levels of estradiol decrease in menopausal women. Menopause causes many symptoms, such as psychological symptoms, and physical symptoms. Thus Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is recommended for menopausal women. This research was aimed to identify the effect of giving sea cucumber powder on the level of estradiol hormone on ovariectomized mice. Randomized Control Trial was used in this research as the method used 18 mice as the research sample, and divided the sample into 6 groups. The groups were mice without ovariectomy, ovariectomized mice, ovariectomized mice with Estradiol 17, ovariectomized mice and given sea cucumber powder with the dosage of 30g/100g bb/day, ovariectomized mice and given sea cucumber powder with the dosage of 40g/100g bb/day, and ovariectomized mice and given

sea cucumber powder with the dosage of 50g/100g bb/day. Test of One-way anova (p<0,05) and posthoc(p<0,05) in all treatment group and control. As a result, the research shows that the giving of sea cucumber powder with the steroid dosage of 30g/100g bb/day produced estradiol hormone with the average of 97.77pg/ml. The giving of sea cucumber powder with the steroid dosage of 40g/100g bb/day produced estradiol hormone with the average of 91.90pg/ml. And the giving of sea cucumber powder with the steroid dosage of 50g/100 g bb/day produced estradiol hormone with the average of 89.34pg/ml. In conclusion, the giving of sea cucumber powder can increase the levels of estradiol hormone in the ovariectomized mice. Keywords: Sea cucumber, estradiol, ovariectomy.
